FAS Recognized with SMA’s Community Service and Environmental Stewardship Awards

Teams in the Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) have been recognized with the Seattle Management Association’s annual Community Service and Environmental Stewardship Awards for their role standing up the City’s first ever free pet vaccination clinics and greening the City’s 4,000-vehicle fleet.

The teams were selected from across City of Seattle departments for the prestigious awards, which recognize excellence in city leadership.

“I’m so proud of the FAS teams for their work and this deserving recognition,” said FAS Acting Director Kiersten Grove. “Whether it’s providing free and critical access to pet care or responding to urgent climate issues through the greening of City vehicles, FAS teams are daily working to serve the residents of Seattle. These awards are recognition of that and the impact the work is having on Seattle communities.”

The FAS teams will be recognized during an awards ceremony at Seattle City Hall on Friday, Nov. 8 are:

  • The Seattle Animal Shelter for the Community Service Award. This is in recognition of the incredible leadership and service the shelter has shown by launching the City’s first ever free pet vaccination clinics, which have treated over 1,200 pets. Awardees include: Dr. Hailey Watlington, Dr. Cardin Kennedy, Michelle Millsap-Smith, Mizuki Closeme, Aimee Zimmerman, Lisa Stoneham, Korren Bradley, Jocelyn Bouchard and Leslea Bowling.
  • The Fleet Management Green Fleet Team for the Environmental Stewardship Award. This award recognizes the great work the team has done pushing the City closer to its climate goals and reducing carbon emissions, including with the roll out earlier this year of the 500th Electric Vehicle into the City’s fleet. Awardees include: Daniel Holmberg, Mike Stroble, Guy Noren, Gary MacNealy, Erik Turner of Capital Development for EV infrastructure support, Chris Wiley, Grace Kong and Lisa Reager.

FAS also recognized other teams and individuals for other awards categories. The full list of nominees are:

  • Teams in Capital Development for the City Government Service Award. This team was chosen as a nominee because of the exceptional job they have done leading the modernization work of all 32 elevators in SMT. The elevators help get 4,000-plus employees to and from their worksites each day.
  • Purchasing and Contracting for the Planning and Project Management Award for their work expanding contracting equity this year. This includes launching a new portal that makes it easier than ever for vendors to do business with the City.
  • Dr. Cardin Kennedy, veterinarian at the Seattle Animal Shelter, for the Emerging Leader Award. Dr. Kennedy was nominated for her leadership and creative work running Seattle Animal Shelter’s social media channels. Thanks to Dr. Kennedy’s efforts, posts have gone viral—sometimes earning over 1 million views—and, most of all, the shelter has seen an increased interest and even uptick in adoptions.
  • Presley Palmer, division director of the FAS’ Purchasing and Contracting division, for the Felecia Caldwell Leadership in Equity Award. Presley was nominated for his leadership in expanding contracting equity at the City, and directing a number of key partnerships and projects, including the launch of a new WMBE training and passage of new Priority Hire legislation.

Congratulations to the teams and individuals for their work!
